Malawi
Our Goal
In May of 2018, I had the privilege of traveling to Malawi, Africa with members of the Made for Kids class at Otis College of Art and Design. During the semester small groups of students collaborated to design lessons to teach children at the Jacaranda Foundation about some of the areas in our field of study. I worked with an animator Luna Aso, to plan an animation workshop in which we taught the children about the history of animation and its basics. Together we designed two projects for the students to create in a span of two days.
Project #1: Flipbooks
The first of our two day workshop was teaching the students history, techniques, and the 12 basic principles of animation. We made small flip books for the students to draw on and create a short hand drawn animation.

Project #2: Zoetrope
For the second part of our animation workshop we had the students work in pairs and create a strip of animation that would be seen through a zoetrope that Luna and I had made previous to arriving in Malawi.
